Annual Greek Independence Day parade in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
The annual Greek Independence Day parade in Tarpon Springs Florida was again impressive this year, commencing after a Doxology service at the historic Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas, patron of seafarers, and officiated by His Grace Bishop Sevastianos.
Parade marchers were cheered on by local residents, as US and Greek flags adorned the coastal Dodecanese Boulevard.
Tarpon Springs has one of the highest concentrations of Greek Americans in the United States, many descendants of Dodecanese islanders who migrated to America in the late 19th and early 20th century.
Greek Independence Day is on March 25, commemorating the start of the revolution against dour Ottoman rule in 1821, and coincides with the Great Feast Day of the Annunciation of the Theotokos.
