Annual six-day procession from Sofia to Monastery of Rila begins
A procession of hundreds of faithful began on Thursday from the Metropolitan Cathedral in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, towards the historic Monastery of Rila.
More than 200 people holding Crosses and icons will walk over mountain trails for six days in order to reach the monastery.
This year marks the 10th consecutive year that the procession is held, recreating the 15th century transport of the miracle-working relics of St. Ivan of Rila, a 10th century Orthodox hermit who holds a highly significant place in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
