Archbishop Elpidophoros: ‘We pray for our Ukrainian brothers and sisters’
The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, on Sunday spoke before a Doxology service at the St. George Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia, ahead of the upcoming March 25 Greek Independence Day.

In addressing assembled congregants, Archbishop Elpidophoros noted that “…Today is the Chapter-Head of our Salvation. This hymn will inaugurate our Doxology today for the Commemoration of the Revolution of 1821. It reveals to us the profound connection of our freedom in Christ – inaugurated by our Panagia – with the liberties of self-determination; for she is the Chapter from whom our salvation and liberation proceeds.”

His Eminence attended the Holy Services of the Second Sunday of Lent at the Philadelphia parish, where a unit of Greece’s Presidential Honor Guard, known as Evzones, were also on hand.

Additionally, His Eminence referred to the war in Ukraine, stressing that “…we pray for our Ukrainian brothers and sisters, who are struggling to maintain their homeland in the face of a barbaric attack that targets women and children.”
