Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece visits the grave of Saint Paisios in Souroti, Thessaloniki
On Sunday afternoon, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece visited the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Souroti, Thessaloniki, as part of his pastoral visit to Northern Greece.
His Beatitude was welcomed by the local Hierarch, His Eminence Metropolitan Nikodimos of Kassandreia, Archimandrite Synesios Stathis, and the Abbess of the Holy Monastery, Nun Philothei, together with the monastic sisterhood.
The Archbishop expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and, with deep reverence, venerated the tomb of Saint Paisios the Athonite, which is located within the monastery grounds. He subsequently held a brief conversation with the Metropolitan, the clergy, the Abbess, and members of the sisterhood.
Speaking to the Hellenic Public Broadcaster (ERT), the Archbishop emphasised that the life of Saint Paisios is an example worthy of imitation, encouraging everyone to preserve the Saint’s humility and to remain steadfast in prayer.
Later that afternoon, His Beatitude travelled to Nea Karvali, Kavala, where he attended the service of the opening of the doors (Thyranoixia) of the Chapel of Saint Paisios the Athonite.
The Archbishop is being accompanied during his visit to Northern Greece by Archdeacon Dimitrios Fokianos.
