Archbishop of Albania Anastasios on reposed Bishop Atanasije Jevtić

The Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and All Albania, His Beatitude Anastasios, was the latest Orthodox Primate to convey his condolences and praise for the life and works of the reposed former Bishop of Zahumlje and Herzegovina Atanasije Jevtić.

Bishop Jevtić, one of the most significant contemporary theologians of the Serbian Church, reposed earlier this month at the age of 83.

In a message, His Beatitude recounted that the reposed Bishop remained devoted to apostolic principles, and was a dynamic interlocutor amongst Serbian intellectuals.

“He served up the truth of the Scriptures and the wealth of patristic thought to the people of God, particularly during a period of ideological conflicts in the transition from the precipices of atheistic socialism to the perilous zones of secular capitalism,” the Archbishop noted.

His Beatitude added: “We met during his post-graduate studies at the Theological School of the University of Athens, and since then we have been together for half a century in various theological pursuits and inter-Orthodox meetings.”
