Archbishop of America eulogizes Greek-American killed in encounter with NYC police

The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, delivered the eulogy for Greek-American George Zapantis, who died last week after being tasered twice by New York City police in the Queens borough, and after a neighbor misreported that he was carrying a gun inside his own home.
The funeral was held at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Whitestone.

In his eulogy, the Archbishop drew a parallel between the Virgin Mary and the victim’s mother, Athanasia, stating that “…we stand with our Panagia at the Cross, the cross of an unjust death perpetrated by the Roman Empire. And we also stand with another mother, our beloved Athanasia, by the cross of the unjust death of her son, George. We are in the midst of this global pandemic, and we are in the midst of our American society that has been rocked by the very kind of abuse that brings us around George’s coffin today.”
