Archbishop of Athens briefed on events for 200th anniversary of Greek Independence

The Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, on Tuesday received the mayor of the northwest Peloponnese town of Kalavryta, Athanasios Papadopoulos.
The town’s mayor briefed the Archbishop over the events planned by the municipality for 2021, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the Greek War of Independence.

The Kalavryta region is historically linked with the beginning of the independence struggle against dour Ottoman rule.
