Archbishop of Australia cites significant role played by Orthodoxy, Hellenism in history of island continent
The Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, over the weekend referred to the significant role played by Orthodoxy and Hellenism in the history of the island continent, as well as the activities of the Archdiocese in the seven months since his enthronement.
His Eminence made the statements during a reception he hosted on the occasion of his name day.
During the reception, choirs sang the national anthems of Australia and Greece, while dance troupes performed traditional Cretan dances, in honor of Makarios’ ancestral island. The Archbishop was overcome with emotion when a video showing his relatives and loved ones on Crete extending their best wishes to him on the occasion of the Feast Day of Macarius of Egypt.
A taped blessing by the Ecumenical Patriarch was also shown.
