Archbishop of Australia Makarios issues message on occasion of 81st anniversary of Battle of Crete

The Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, this week issued a message on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the historic Battle of Crete, where he noted, among others, that “…The events of the historic Battle of Crete have been etched in golden letters, not only in the annals of history but also in the conscience of all Greeks and nations.”
In Eminence also reminded of the thousands of Australian soldiers who fought for the defense of the large Greek island and “…watered Cretan land with their blood, yet another reason that intensifies our duty to learn from their virtues and to live our lives in the modern world with the same values and ideals that they did”.
