Archbishop of Kinshasa & Central Africa Nikiforos reposes in the Lord

The Archbishop of Kinshasa and Central Africa Nikiforos reposed in the Lord today, a day after being airlifted from the Congo and hospitalized at a Thessaloniki hospital in northern Greece.
The venerable Nikiforos had originally been hospitalized with Covid-19 in the African country.

The reposed Metropolitan was born in Thessaloniki in 1949.

In October 2010, at the proposal of the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His most Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, he was elected as the Metropolitan of Central Africa by the members of the Alexandria Patriarchate’s Holy Synod.

The beloved hierarch and missionary had given an interview to the Orthodoxia news agency in May 2020, where he referred to the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo during the pandemic, as well as the insolent references by some quarters in Greece at the time regarding the Holy Communion.
