Archbishop of Montenegro & Littoral Amphilochios reposes in the Lord
The Archbishop of Cetinje, Metropolitan of Montenegro and Exarch of the Holy Throne of Pec, Amphilochios (Amfilohije), reposed in the Lord on Friday morning.
Amphilochios passed away after having received the Holy Sacrament of Communion at a Podgorica hospital, on the eve of the feast day of St. Peter of Cetinje. He remained hospitalized for acute pneumonia after having been infected with the Covid-19 virus.
An Exodios funeral service will be held on Sunday at the Cathedral of the Resurrection in Podgorica.
Amphilochios’ body will lay in state at the holy monastery of the Nativity of the Theotokos, in the ancient Montenegro capital of Cetinje, and next to the holy relics of St. Peter the Miracle-worker, Metropolitan of Montenegro, on the eve of that saint’s feast day. A divine liturgy will be held at the monastery on Saturday.
The Bishop of Budmilje & Niksic, Ηis Grace Ioannicus, a spiritual offspring of the reposed Metropolitan, has been appointed by the Serbian Orthodox Church as its patriarchal vicar for the Metropolis of Montenegro and the Littoral.
During the ongoing pandemic, the reposed Metropolitan had granted an interview to the Orthodoxia News Agency, in Greek, referring to the trials faced by humanity from the invisible coronavirus, as well as the struggle of the Orthodox Church in Montenegro.
The interview has been posted again on the pages of the Orthodoxia News Agency.
