The Asterousia mountain range on the large island of Crete is set to be included in a relevant UNESCO list for its natural beauty and significant fauna and flora.

The mountain range on Greece’s largest island is also considered as a cradle of Christianity and monasticism on Crete, one where the Apostle Paul ministered in the early decades of Christianity – the reason it is known as the Mount Athos of Crete.

A feature is posted today on the pages of the Orthodoxia news agency on the rugged island region, which hosts the Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of the Odigitria, and the cliff-side Church of St. Anthony.
