Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzos Presides Over Contrition Service
On Sunday of the Holy Cross, March 27, 2022, His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzos presided over the Contrition Vespers at Zoodohos Peghe Church in Bronx, New York, representing His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America. His Grace was joined by the Archdiocesan Chancellor Fr. Nektarios Papazafiropulos, Chancellor of the Archdiocesan District Fr. Elias Villis, Proestamenos Fr. Vasileios Louros, and clergy across New York. The Society of Byzantine Cantors of the Archdiocesan District beautifully chanted the hymns of this Divine Service.
As previously announced by His Eminence, each Sunday evening during the Lenten period, Contrition Vesper services will be celebrated in parishes throughout the Archdiocesan District. Faithful are encouraged to attend these uplifting services to assist them in focusing on the virtues of the Lenten period – prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
