The Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates the Birth of Virgin Mary on September 21. Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II gave a church service on this occasion at Sioni Cathedral in Tbilisi.

Patriarch congratulated all Georgians on this day and underlined that he prays much for those, who are diagnosed with cancer. “This is a very bad disease and let it stay far from us and the whole world,” Ilia II said.

September is the month for raising awareness about the struggle against cancer among children. On this occasion, Patriarch awarded founders of Monk Andrea Foundation, which helps gratuitously young adults up to 18 years old sick with cancers and implements various events to improve their degree of life.

Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze and members of parliament attended the church service.
