Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou attended celebratory events on Wednesday in the southern city of Kalamata, commemorating the 201st anniversary of its liberation from dour Ottoman rule.

Events commenced with a con-celebratory Doxology service at the historic Cathedral of the Holy Apostles, officiated by the Metropolitan of Messinia, His Eminence Chrysostomos, and the Metropolitan of Mani, also His Eminence Chrysostomos.

A prayer service and the laying of wreaths followed at a memorial monument for the fallen.
