Greek Deputy Defense Minister Alkiviadis Stefanis attended a ceremony at the Thessaloniki officers’ club for the repatriation of the remains of Greek army Maj. Georgios Katsanis, who fell heroically on July 21, 1974 during a battle with invading Turkish forces in the vicinity of the mountainous St. Ilarionas fortress — between Kyrenia and Nicosia.

Maj. Katsanis, the commander of the 33rd commando squadron of the Cypriot National Guard, was a native of Serres, in northern Greece.
