Christians continue to face persecution in Iran

Iran’s minister of intelligence, the hard-line cleric Mahmud Alavi, this week raised eyebrows around the world by expressing his concern, over “… the spreading of Christianity” in the Islamic republic.

Even more shockingly, the conservative minister said Iranian authorities were in the process of questioning people who have converted to Christianity in the predominately Shiite Muslim country.

Alavi spoke on the occasion of Ramadan, the month of fasting and prayer for Muslims.

It’s noteworthy to point out that despite the fact that Christians continue to face persecution in the Islamic republic, a significant number of people are turning to Christianity, oftentimes at the risk of their own lives.
