The Church today commemorates the Removal of the Relics of St. John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople.
On the occasion, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, officiated at a Divine Liturgy on Thursday at the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. George, the eve of the Translation of the Holy Relics.

Based on millennia-old ecclesiastical rite, the Holy Icon of the Saint and a Patriarchal staff were placed on the Patriarchal Throne, whereas St. John’s Holy Relics – returned from Rome several years ago – were placed upon the Solea – the raised platform in front of the inner sanctuary – for worship by the faithful.

The Honest Skull of John Chrysostom is preserved and venerated at the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, a great blessing for the venerable Mount Athos Monastery.
