Cincture of the Theotokos Holy Relic arrives in Corinth amid emotional welcome by hierarchs, faithful
The southern Greece city of Corinth on Tuesday afternoon welcomed the arrival of the Cincture of the Theotokos, known as the Haghia Zoni, or Holy Sash in Greek, after the Holy Relic was conveyed from the monastic estate of St. Nicholas, in the Porto Lagos district of extreme northeast Greece.
The Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, conveyed the Haghia Zoni to Corinth for its veneration by the faithful. It was received in a resplendent ceremony in the courtyard of the Cathedral of the Apostle Paul by the Metropolitan of Corinth, His Eminence Dionysios.
In his emotional address, Dionysios referred to the Virgin Mary as the mother of all the faithful, in a touching address before hundreds of worshippers, Church hierarchs and local officials, while adding that his tears were those of joy, due to the arrival of the Haghia Zoni in the city.
A video is posted today on the webpages of the Orthodoxia news agency.
The Haghia Zoni, along with a Holy Relic of the Apostle Paul, will remain in Corinth for veneration until Sunday, June 30, coinciding with religious commemorations for the Apostle Paul, the founder of the first Christian community in the ancient city-state, as well as the Church of Greece.
