CYPRIOT CHURCH WILL CELEBRATE WEDDINGS DURING FIRST MONTH OF NATIVITY FAST DUE TO PANDEMIC
By decision of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, weddings may be served during the first half of the Nativity Fast at the end of the year.
The Synod met for the first time this year on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Archbishop Chrysostomos. According to the Synodal communiqué, the hierarchs decided “by economy, because of the pandemic,” to allow the Sacrament of Marriage to be celebrated in churches in the first half of the Nativity Fast, from November 15 to December 12.
Under normal circumstances, weddings aren’t celebrated on fasting days and during the four fasting periods, according to Orthodox Tradition.
The Synod made the same decision in 2020.
Reports of hierarchs participating in inter-Orthodox, inter-Christian, and inter-religious dialogues were also heard on Tuesday.
