Date of Dec. 18 for first phase of election of new Archbishop of Cyprus fixed

Members of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus met on Monday to discuss issues related to an upcoming electoral process to select a trio of eligible hierarchs of the Church who have declared their intent to succeed reposed Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II on the vacant throne.
Among others, a proposal to change the date of the Archdiocese election was examined and rejected, with the date remaining fixed on Dec. 18.

Asked when the Holy Synod will convene after the election of a new Archbishop, the Metropolitan of Paphos, His Grace Georgios, the locum tenens of the throne, indicated between Christmas and the advent of the New Year.
