An Episcopal liturgy at the ruins of a 5th century Byzantine Church was held on Thursday in the Israeli city of Ashdod, ancient coastal Azotos.

The outdoors Divine Liturgy at the ruins of the ancient Church was officiated by Archbishop Theophanes of GeRAssa, with the participation of several Hierarchs and Elder Archimandrites of the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem.

After the service, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Most Godly Beatitude Theophilos III, led a Trisagion memorial service for the repose of the souls of the departed Fathers of old, whose names are commemorated in the various inscriptions on the mosaic floor of the ancient Church.
