Divine Liturgy in Corinth for presence of the Cincture of the Theotokos; faithful flock to Holy Sash of the Blessed Virgin Mary
A Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday morning at the Cathedral of the Apostle Paul, in the southern city of Corinth, on the occasion of the veneration of the Cincture of the Theotokos, known as the Haghia Zoni, or Holy Sash in Greek.
The Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, presided at the Orthros service – the Orthodox equivalent of the Matins – as well as the Divine Liturgy, con-celebrated with other Elders of the Monastery and hierarchs of the local Metropolis of Corinth.
The Haghia Zoni, along with a Holy Relic of the Apostle Paul, will remain in Corinth for veneration until Sunday, coinciding with religious commemorations for the Apostle Paul, the founder of the first Christian community in the ancient city-state, as well as the Church of Greece.
The Elder Archimandrite Ephraim conveyed the Haghia Zoni to Corinth, along with other Elders of the Monastery, for veneration by the faithful.
Worshippers again flocked to the Cathedral on Friday from every corner of Greece to venerate the Holy Relic.
In his sermon, the Elder Ephraim referred to the miracles attributed to the Haghia Zoni. The Abbot of the Mt. Athos monastery also touched on the very large attendance by the faithful arriving in Corinth, as well as their patience in waiting to venerate the Holy Sash of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Videos are posted today on the Orthodoxia news agency’s webpages.
In a related development, the Elder Ephraim will speak on Saturday afternoon from the historic Rostra, or Bema, the place where the Roman forum existed during antiquity in ancient Corinth.
The theme of the Elder Archimandrite’s address will be “… Fatherhood, According to the Apostle Paul”.
