Easing on restrictions of visits, overnight stays of pilgrims to Mount Athos
The Holy Community, the administration of the semi-autonomous monastic community of Mount Athos, this week announced an easing of restrictions in place to prevent exposure to the Covid-19 virus.
Specifically, up to 20 visitors and pilgrims per day will be allowed to visit each monastery; 15 for each cenobitic skete. Additionally, travel between monasteries on Mount Athos is again allowed.
Overnight stays for pilgrims to Mount Athos will be raised to a total of 60, although each visitor must still confirm his stay with the monastery that will host him.
The Holy Community may also allow increased stays for pilgrims and guests on the all-male semi-autonomous polity in extraordinary situations, such as for annual religious festivals.
