Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholemew I, has announced the canonization of four reposed Athonite Elders, and specifically Daniel Katounakiotis, the founder of Danielaioi brotherhood of Mount Athos, Ieronymos Simonopetritis, Joseph the Hesychast and Ephraim Katounakiotis, during a particularly poignant service in Karyes, the capital of the semi-autonomous monastic community in northern Greece.

His All Holiness arrived in northern Greece on Friday, while being received on Mt. Athos over the weekend with centuries-old Athonite order and millennia-old Byzantine ecclesiastical tradition.
