Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew continues much-anticipated pastoral visit to Athens

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, this week continued his much-anticipated pastoral visit to Athens.
On Sunday, the Ecumenical Patriarch officiated at the Vespers held at the Ascension of the Lord glebe, known in Greek as a metochion, of the Simonos Petra Monastery of Mount Athos, which is located in the east Athens district of Vyronas, and where the Venerable Ieronymos of Simonos Petra Monastery was canonized.

The Ecumenical Patriarch was welcomed by the mayor of the municipality, as well as the Abbot of the Holy Monastery, the Elder Archimandrite Eliseos, the local Metropolitan of Kesariani, Vyronas and Ymittos, His Eminence Daniel, the Civil Governor of Mt. Athos, Athanasios Martinos, other hierarchs, priests, hieromonks, local office-holders and numerous faithful.

The services were live-streamed by the Pemptousia online platform.

After the services, a ceremony was held renaming an adjacent road as St. Ieronymost of Simonos Petra, followed by a Great Festal Liturgy on the occasion of the upcoming anniversary of the canonization of St. Ieronymos.

Additionally, His All Holiness was declared as an honorary citizen of the municipality of Vyronas, which is located on the foothills of Mt. Ymittos and overlooks the greater Athens area from the east.
