Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew visits the Holy Monastery of Baloukli — Trisagion Service at the Grave of the Late Patriarch Dimitrios I of Constantinople
Late in the afternoon of Sunday, 26 April, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, accompanied by his entourage, visited the Holy Monastery of Baloukli, where he venerated the ancient Holy Spring (Hagiasma) and, according to tradition, added oil to its ever-burning vigil lamp so that it may never be extinguished.
Thereafter, His All-Holiness celebrated a Trisagion service at the grave of his late predecessor, Patriarch Dimitrios I of Constantinople, commemorating all the Patriarchs, Hierarchs, and Great Benefactors of the Nation who repose in its courtyard.
Immediately afterwards, he proceeded to the adjacent Second Cemetery of the Monastery, where he celebrated a Trisagion for the repose of souls, “of our fathers and brethren, whose names the Lord knows.”
