Ecumenical Patriarch: “Distorted news were circulated over the Ukrainian issue”
On Thursday, May 23, 2019, the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Bartholomew I touched on the contentious issue of Autocephaly for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, during his tour of the Athens Journalist Union’s educational institute in downtown Athens.
The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople granted the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church last November, a move that angered the Russian Orthodox Church and generated reactions in other Orthodox Churches as well.
In a brief comment, the Patriarch said, “…Distorted news were circulated over the Ukrainian issue. Unfortunately. They also concealed the truth. As journalists you should strive for the truth, and only the truth, because Christ is the truth.”
