Ecumenical Patriarch welcomes Greek opposition leader Mitsotakis to the Phanar

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on Thursday received Greece’s main opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the patriarchate in Phanar, Istanbul.
“It is with a great pleasure, both for me and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, to receive you here in Phanar on Holy Thursday, on the eve of the Resurrection,” Bartholomew said, greeting Mitsotakis.
“I wanted an opportunity to be here with you on such an important day for the Orthodox faith to once again convey our deep love and respect,” Mitsotakis replied. They discussed the main opposition leader’s recent visit to the island of Imbros for the opening of a recently renovated chapel, which had remained closed for decades.
Mitsotakis will attend the church service at the Church of St. George at the Patriarchate and return to Greece on Good Friday.
