Elevation of the True & Life-Giving Cross celebrated by Patriarchate of Jerusalem, as based on Julian calendar
The great feast day of the Elevation of the True and Live-Giving Cross, as based on the Julian calendar, was celebrated with splendorous ecclesiastical rite at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.
The Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Theophilos III, officiated at a Divine Liturgy, followed by the elevation of the True Cross on the Holy Altar.
In a related development, the visiting Metropolitan of Maronia and Komotini, His Eminence Panteleimon, participated at the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
After the Holy Services, the Metropolitan presented His Beatitude with an anniversary edition of the Holy Metropolis of Komotini, entitled “100 Years since the Asia Minor Campaign and Asia Minor Catastrophe,” as well as a commemorative Encolpion, or ecclesiastical medallion worn by hierarchs around the neck. The latter marks the one-hundred-year anniversary of Komotini’s liberation and the recent conveyance of the Wonder-working Icon of the Panaghia Axion Esti from Mount Athos to the northeast Greece metropolis.
