Russian Orthodox believers celebrated Epiphany on Tuesday – based on the Julian calendar – by plunging into the freezing waters around the vast country.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the safety of believers bathing during the Sanctification of the Waters ceremonies throughout the country was provided by more than 14,000 rescuers and more than 4,000 units of special equipment.
