Event in Sydney focuses on Orthodox missionary work in Sierra Leone
The Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, this week attended an event focusing on the missionary work conducted by Orthodox clerics in the impoverished west African country of Sierra Leone.
Fr. Themistocles Adamopoulos, who has devoted his life to missionary work in Africa, presented a food and education program for children in west Africa.
The event was held in the reception hall of the St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College in Sydney, where donations during the evening for the holy mission in Sierra Leone reached 64,000 Aus. dollars.
His Eminence thanked those in attendance, and called on the faithful not to forget the world’s orphans and poor, stressing «… I am poor, and I want to remain poor».
