Events ahead of Saturday’s rededication ceremony of the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, in Cairo, Egypt, commenced this evening — first with a celebratory Divine Liturgy and followed with a concert by well-known Greek composer Evanthia Rebutsika in the cathedral’s courtyard.

The emblematic Christian cathedral in the Egyptian capital, a landmark for the ethnic Greek communities in the ancient country and known as the “Jewel of Orthodoxy in Africa,” has undergone an extensive renovations over the past two years.

Funding for the massive restoration works was provided by the ethnic Greek community of Cairo and benefactress Ekaterini Sofianou-Belefanti.
