A well-known medieval Orthodox church in Russia has reopened after two years of extensive renovations. The St. Nicholas Chapel, on the isle of Lipno, is a late 13th century example of Novgorod stone architecture, and also hosts several rare frescoes.

The church has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Extensive renovations began in 2016, following a directive by Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev.
