Faithful flock to venerate the Cincture of the Theotokos – the Haghia Zoni – in northern Greece city of Drama (VIDEO + PHOTOS)
The Cincture of the Theotokos, known as the Haghia Zoni, or Holy Sash in Greek, continued to be venerated by the faithful in the northern Greece city of Drama on Saturday — two days after it was conveyed from the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi on Mt. Athos.
The Haghia Zoni will remain in Drama, and specifically at the St. Nicholas Cathedral until Sunday morning, before being conveyed to the monastery’s ecclesiastical estate of Porto Lagos, in extreme NE Greece.
The Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of Vatopedi, on Saturday presided at the Divine Liturgy held at the Cathedral, con-celebrated with other Elders of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi.
In his sermon, the Elder Ephraim emphasized that the Blessed Virgin Mary comprises an oasis of the soul, and provides comfort to those in need. He also cited the miracles associated with the veneration of the Haghia Zoni.
The Hagia Zoni will be venerated in Corinth from June 25 until Sunday, June 30, coinciding with local religious commemorations for the Apostle Paul, the founder of the first Christian community in the ancient city-state, as well as the Church of Greece.
The sermon by the Elder Ephraim, in Greek, is available in full on the online magazine “Pemptousia”.
