Feast day of Ephraim the Syrian

The Church today venerates the memory of Ephraim the Syrian.

St. Ephraim was born in Nisibis of Mesopotamia in roughly 306, and in his youth was the disciple of St. James, Bishop of Nisibis, one of the 318 Fathers at the First Ecumenical Council.

Ephraim lived in the city, practicing a strict ascetical life and increasing in holiness.
