Feast day of Joseph the Hesychast commemorated on Mount Athos
The memory of Joseph the Hesychast was commemorated for the third straight year, as based on the Julian calendar, at the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, on Mount Athos, after the reposed Father’s canonization by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in 2020.
The memory of this new saint of the Mother Church is particularly venerated by the Vatopedi brotherhood.
A Holy Vigil following centuries-old Athonite rite was held on the eve of the feast day, followed by a eucharistic synaxis, officiated by the Metropolitan of Nea Krinis and Kalamaria, His Eminence Ioustinos, and co-officiated by the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, and Abbot of the venerable monastery, archimandrites of the Church of Greece Vatopedi elders, Mt. Athos hieromonks, and attended by many pilgrims.
