Feast Day of St. Sabbas today – (VIDEOS)

The Church today venerates the memory of Sabbas the Sanctified.

St. Sabbas entered monastic life from childhood and was under the tutelage of the great mentor of monastics, Euthymius the Great.

In October 2018, the Holy Relic of St. Sabbas was conveyed to a new reliquary, in the presence of the Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Most Godly Beatitude Theophilos III, the Church of Greece’s Metropolitan of Mesogaia, His Eminence Nikolaos and other hierarchs of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

The Metropolitan of Mesogaia recounts the emotional ceremony at the Holy Monastery of St. Sabbas the Sanctified, as well as his own study on the placement of the saint’s Holy Relics in the new reliquary.

Additionally, a rare 1965 video is posted today recounting how the Blessed Patriarch of Jerusalem Benediktos achieved the return of the Holy Relics from the Roman Catholic Church to the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, and specifically to the Holy Lavra of St. Sabbas Monastery in the Judean Desert – the monastery established by the canonized monk, where they remain to this day.
