Today marks the somber anniversary of the repose of Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Christodolos, who passed away on this day in 2008.
The esteemed Archbishop’s last words echo as timelier than ever today, “… resurrection and revival … so we may find what we have lost; to defend whatever is threatened.”

One of Christodoulos’ closest associates, preacher and cleric Epiphanios Economou, spoke to the Orthodoxia news agency about his tenure and the historical moments he witnessed at the side of the inspiring late Archbishop of Athens.

Fr. Epiphanios, who today is the head of the Metropolis of Dimitriados’ press office, touches directly on the reposed Archbishop’s first years as the Primate of the Orthodox Church in Greece, as well as the hierarch’s contributions to promoting national issues and education, while also detailing the hostility faced by Christodoulos from certain political quarters and even business interests in the country.

A feature is posted this week on the pages of the Orthodoxia news agency on the life and works of reposed Archbishop Christodoulos, including excerpts of the hierarch’s addresses and sermons.
