Former Archbishop Demetrios of America visits the Metropolis of Thessaloniki
On the morning of Wednesday, J14 January 2026, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, former Archbishop of America, paid an official visit to the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki.
The Archbishop and his entourage were warmly received by His Eminence Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki. During their meeting, the two hierarchs discussed matters of mutual interest in a cordial and fraternal atmosphere.
Throughout the conversation, Archbishop Demetrios expressed particular interest in issues concerning the Greek diaspora in the United States. Both hierarchs also made repeated and heartfelt references to the late Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Anthimos, with whom Archbishop Demetrios shared a long-standing bond of friendship dating back to their student years.
It was also announced that on Sunday, 18 January, Archbishop Demetrios will attend and deliver the homily at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy in the festal Parish Church of Saint Athanasius the Great, marking the feast of the saint.
