Greek high court rejects petition to build new Orthodox Church in Votanikos district

The Council of State, the highest administrative court in Greece, has rejected an appeal to allow the consecration of a new Orthodox church in the inner city Athens district of Votanikos, close to where an under-construction mosque is located.

According to the reasoning of the high court ruling, the establishment and operation of new Orthodox Christian Churches in the country can only be constructed on sites designated for such purposes by zoning and town planning laws.
