Greece’s tourism ministry general secretary, Constantinos Loulis, spoke to the Orthodoxia News Agency and journalist Maria Giachnaki this week regarding the ministry’s initiative to further boost religious tourism to the east Mediterranean country — referring, in fact, to the millennia of cultural and spiritual wealth accumulated by the Orthodox monasteries and convents in the country.

Loulis, a former civil governor of the semi-autonomous monastic community of Mount Athos, described the milestones of his tenure and the spirituality and devoutness he encountered at the 20 monasteries on the northern Greece peninsula.
