His Beatitude Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos blesses the beginning of the restoration project of the Chapel of the Myrrh-Bearing Women
This morning, 1/14 June 2026, on the Sunday of the Saints of Palestine, following the Divine Liturgy in the Patriarchal Monastic Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, His Beatitude our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III, celebrated the Service of the Blessing of the Waters and blessed the commencement of the restoration works of the dome of the Chapel of the Myrrh-Bearing Women.
This historic chapel, situated near the Church of Saint James the Brother of the Lord and beneath the great bell tower of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, suffered severe damage during the 1927 earthquake, when its dome was destroyed.
By the blessing of His Beatitude, the restoration works of this historic Holy Place now commence, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the precious ecclesiastical and historical heritage of the Holy Land.
