Historic Holy Cross Cathedral in NW Chicago sold in foreclosure auction

A US District Court Judge this week approved the sale of a historic northwest Chicago building which, since the 1960s, has housed the Greek Orthodox Holy Trinity Church. The Church property was sold for 2.5 million dollars to Universal Life.

The parish now has 75 days in order to vacate the building.

The Holy Trinity parish had narrowly avoided a foreclosure auction late last year, after an anonymous donation was received.

The Church generated more headlines earlier this week when a caretaker and then worshippers witnessed glistening streaks, like tears, that suddenly appeared beneath the eyes of a fresco of the Virgin Mary.
