Holy Archdiocese of Australia initiative to preserve audiovisual documents related to ethnic Greek community
The Holy Archdiocese of Australia this week announced an initiative by the Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, to preserve audiovisual documents as sources of the living memory of the ethnic Greek community of Australia.
The initiative, with the blessing and guidance of the Archbishop of Australia, aims to create a digital museum, storing personal accounts collected and recorded through audiovisual media, as well as previously unpublished photos.
The initiative was announced on the occasion of UNESCO’s World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, annually commemorated on Oct. 27.
The project by the Archdiocese, entitled “Our People, Their Stories”, intends to systematically and methodically record and safeguard the personal accounts of Greek-Australians, first and second-generation immigrants to the island continent.
