Holy Diocese of Chora: Celebrations for the 50th Year Anniversary of the Church of Saint Nektarios, Fawkner
The anniversary celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Church of Saint Nektarios Fawkner were held with splendour and deep emotion on Sunday, 14 July 2025, with the organisation of the local Parish and the Parish Council.
The event was honoured with the presence of His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, representing His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, who conveyed his heartfelt wishes, paternal love and hierarchal blessings for this historic anniversary.
During the event, the memory of the first Parish Priest of the Church, the late Fr. Ioannis Limoyiannis, who served with love and devotion in the early days of the parish, was honoured. An honorary plaque was presented to his grandson, who represented his family at the event. Also, special mention and honour was made to Fr. Spyridon Vandoros, who served the parish for many years with self-sacrifice and love during the most difficult times. Although he was unable to attend, the plaque was awarded to his daughter who represented him.
Finally, warm words of gratitude were also expressed for the current Parish Priest, Fr. Konstantinos Apostollelis, who continues the work of his predecessors with zeal, vision and pastoral care, serving the flock of Christ with self-denial and nobility.
In his address, His Grace, among other things, emphasised: “The Church is not a museum. It is not a monument of the past. It is the Body of Christ — living, moving, and breathing. We are not called simply to honour what happened in the past, but to continue the work of Christ in the world today; to build the future of our Church, with faith, vision, and love for the new generation. The future of the Church depends on how alive, active, and bright our faith is today.”
In closing, His Grace expressed his conviction that the Parish of Saint Nektarios is a spiritual jewel for the Holy Diocese of Chora and for the entire Holy Archdiocese of Australia, and urged everyone to continue their work with courage, hope and prayer, so that the next 50 years may be even more fruitful.
