Holy Diocese of Chora: The Service of the Bridegroom at the Cathedral of Our Lady “Axion Estin”,Northcote
With particular reverence, the Service of the Bridegroom (Matins of Holy Monday) was celebrated on the evening of Palm Sunday at the Cathedral of our Lady “Axion Estin” in Northcote, within the Holy Diocese of Chora.
The sacred service was presided over by His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, who conveyed to the faithful the paternal blessings and well-wishes of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia for a holy and blessed Holy Week.
In his sermon, His Grace highlighted the theological depth of the image of the Bridegroom, emphasising that Christ is not absent, but present in the life of the human person, while man himself often remains spiritually absent. As he underlined, there is a danger of knowing Christ, yet not truly accepting Him, especially when He is revealed through humility and the Cross.
Holy Week, he noted, is not merely an invitation to attend the sacred services, but a call to true vigilance and inner transformation, so that each person may encounter Christ with sincerity and a readiness to accept His will.
