A reliquary containing the skull of St. John Chrysostom, kept at the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, was conveyed this week to the northern Greece city of Thessaloniki for veneration by the faithful.

The Holy Relic was conveyed to the city by the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, on Mt. Athos.

The Elder Ephraim, in his address, cited the miraculous preservation of the Holy Relic in 1821, when the Greek War of Independence commenced, reminding that several Vatopedi Monks were martyred at the hands of the Ottoman Turks, as they were conveying the Holy Relic from Mt. Athos to Crete.

Additionally, the Very-Reverend Archimandrite also referred to the incorruptibility of St. John Chrysostom, which emanated from his deep and mystical belief in God.
