A three-day meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for October began today, presided by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All-Holiness Bartholomew I.
The hierarchs of the Holy Synod will carry out their three-day work at the Monastery of the Life-Giving Font of the Theotokos, which is more spacious, and where public health measures can be more easily observed.

On Monday, after the permission and urging of the Ecumenical Patriarch, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Finland, chaired by Archbishop Leo of Helsinki and All of Finland, took place for the first time at the seat of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, attended the meeting at the side of the Ecumenical Patriarch.

Additionally, on Monday His All-Holiness received the Metropolitan of Mexico, His Eminence Athinagoras, who was accompanied by three newly elected auxiliary Bishops, Athinagoras, Isichios and Timotheos.

After a private meeting, they were presented with the Announcement of their election. The newly elected bishops expressed their heartfelt gratitude, while the Ecumenical Patriarch congratulated them and gave them paternal advice for success of their new mission.

In the presence of the Synodical Hierarchs, the Patriarchal court and other clergymen and lay pilgrims, the three bishops celebrated in succession the service of the Greater Minima, at the Patriarchal cathedral of St. George.
