STATEN ISLAND – The Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas community of Staten Island once again honored couples who are celebrating 50+ years of marriage with a moving ceremony held on January 19 at the Church immediately following the Divine Liturgy.

The honorees included 13 couples from the community: Christos and Androula Papaiacovou, 63 years of marriage, Constantine and Kyriaki Zenon, 62 years, Peter and Eleni Rassias, 61 years, Harry (Haralambos) and Katerina Seremetis, 61 years, Constantine and Helen Tzivas, 58 years, Mark and Bertha Kapetanakis, 58 years, Michael and Vicky Anastos, 56 years, George and Margarita Seherlis, 53 years, Constantine and Maria Kapetanakis, 53 years, Emmanuel and Stella Vlastakis, 52 years, John and Christina Haritis, 52 years, Anastasios and Chloe Anastos, 51 years, and John and Ioanna Nichols, 50 years.

The presiding priest of the community Protopresbyter Nicholas Petropoulakos blessed and congratulated the couples and offered them a commemorative gift from the parish. As he put it, “all the couples together are 730 years old. It is with great pleasure that we honor today our worthy community members who have been faithfully serving the institution of marriage and the values ​​of the family for decades. They offer us a valuable life lesson and are an example to all. I hope God gives you health and many more years of happy married life.”
Honesty, communication and understanding are key ingredients to a successful marriage,” Harry Seremetis, who is celebrating 61 years with his wife Katerina, told The National Herald.

Both are originally from Lemnos and they met at the Cretan House in New York and got married at St. Spyridon in 1958. They have two children and five grandchildren.

John and Christina Haritis, 52 years of marriage, consider respect and patience the secrets of a happy and long-lasting marriage.

“I grew up in the Bronx and John in Brooklyn. We met in 1964 at a GOYA conference in New Orleans and got married in 1967 in the Church of the Three Hierarchs in Brooklyn,” Christina said.

John Haritis comes from Sparta and Kalamata and Christina comes from Kranidi.

Anastasios and Chloe Anastos, both from Cyprus, are celebrating 51 years of marriage. They consider harmony and positive treatment of everyday problems as the secret of their marriage. They have three children and seven grandchildren.
Emmanuel Vlastakis met his wife Stella in 1963 in New York and they married in 1967 in the Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Church of Staten Island. They have three children and three grandchildren.

As Vlastakis told TNH, “we Cretans regard the family as the cornerstone of society. I wish the newly married couples every happiness and joy in their lives.”

Michael and Vicky Anastos met in Limassol, Cyprus in 1960 and married in 1963. They came to America in 1966 and settled in Staten Island where they still live. They have two children, Panagiota and Constantine.
